Assessment methods:
Students‘ results are evaluated according to the classification specified in official faculty documents:
a) A - 94 - 100 % excellent (PASS) = 1
b) B - 86 – 93 % very good (PASS) = 1,5
c) C - 76 – 85 % good (PASS) = 2
d) D - 66 – 75 % satisfactory (PASS) = 2,5
e) E - 56 – 65 % sufficient (PASS) = 3
f) FX - 0 – 55 % insufficient (FAIL)= 4.
 
Learning outcomes of the course unit:
The aim of this course is to introduce students to database technology basics covering database architecture, data models, methods for data access and database design. Students learn to program SQL queries including more advanced constructions. The course also provides practical lab experience with open RDBMS MariaDB.

1. Intro – overview & modelling, ER model start
2. ER model finish – cardinalities, notations
3. Relational model – definition, converting ERM to RM
4. Relational model – Relational Algebra basic ops
5. Introduction to SQL
6. SQL aggregation functions, GROUP BY
7. SQL advanced features – JOIN, VIEW
8. Advanced techniques - database transactions, triggers
9. SQL & PHP
10. Database administration
11. Physical Implementation considerations – storage engine & indices
12. Non-relational Databases - No SQL & Cloud storage
